Booked

Surely only other grandparents can understand how wonderful this is- reading a Dr Seuss book to Kara that I used to read to Stacey when she was that age.   We celebrated Thanksgiving early with all of the Congroves since Ann and I will be traveling over the holiday.  Are we thankful?  Oh yes.

Good Advice

I read this beautiful guidance today and it seemed to fit well with this photo:
Totally release the past; let go of all attachments and judgments.  Forgive everyone for everything, including yourself.  Be grateful for everything.  Focus only on being peaceful.

Tedious Details II

The last closet shelf in the house is done.  I had fun figuring out that I could drill a hole in that end piece so it could support both the rod and the shelf above at the same time.   The rod provides lots of hanging space in the guest bedroom, but since guests don't typically have a lot of clothes to hang, who knows what we'll end up putting in there.  Maybe off-season clothes, Halloween costumes, unruly neighbors, etc.

Let's Step Outside

Fall rains have made it extra nice to go outside lately.  This first photo demonstrates that mother nature has excellent decorating skills, placing these beautiful flowers on either side of our entry sidewalk without any help from us.   We tracked down the beauties in one of our flower books and found that it IS typical for them to bloom in October... but I guess recent Octobers have been so dry that they just never made it.

Even this man-made hardscape outside the garage looks better in 2012.  The rains have made the native ground cover fill in nicely, softening the river rock.   The plants also provide great shelter for rabbits and birds foraging for food.  The weather this Fall seems even more spectacular after suffering through the great drought of 2011 last year.  All the more reason to step outside as often as possible while it is so nice.
